Troy Regional CEO Rick Smith named Baldridge Foundation Leadership Award Winner

The Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award exists to strengthen the competitiveness of organizations and improve community well-being through performance excellence.

“The Foundation’s Leadership Awards recognize individuals whose leadership reflects the values and principles of the Baldrige Framework and whose service has strengthened organizations, communities and the broader Baldrige enterprise,” said Josh Racette, President and CEO of the Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, Inc.

“It is an honor to be named a Baldridge Foundation Leadership Award recipient,” said Smith. “I am humbled to be chosen alongside other leaders in their respective professions.”

The Foundation Leadership Award for Excellence was established to recognize leaders in business, nonprofit, government, healthcare, education, cybersecurity and community who provide exceptional support to Baldrige and the Foundation’s mission.

“Leadership is something we discuss daily at Troy Regional,” added Smith. “My goal is to equip our leadership team with the knowledge and tools they need to be effective and successful. We also focus on identifying employees with potential and giving them an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and advance within the organization.”

Smith is responsible for overseeing Troy Regional Medical Center's operations and strategic direction. Since joining the hospital in 2020, he has led more than $3.5 million in facility improvements aimed at enhancing patient care and operational efficiency.

Smith served as Chief Operating Officer at Orland Health-Health Central Hospital in Florida and was Vice President of Operations at Bay Medical Sacred Heart Medical Center in Panama City for 16 years.

Smith holds a master's degree in health administration, is credentialed in radiology administration and is board-certified as a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Smith also serves on the Pike County Economic Development Corporation Board and the Advisory Board for the College of Health Sciences at Troy University.

Smith and the other award recipients will be honored during the Foundation Awards Luncheon on March 31, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland.
